In this life, “ya gotta keep moving”. Both my grandfathers worked well into old age doing skilled physical labor that they loved. They were productive men. My father practiced law until he died at almost 80 years of age.
I watched him remain productive his whole life. I, too, plan to be productive and practice law my entire life. When I graduated from law school, I moved downtown and I walked to work every day. I got to exercise a bit but mostly, I met the local business people and my local neighbors. They became lifelong friends and clients. I love being active. I love being physically on the move.
When my three sons came along, as quickly as possible, I got them out on day hikes and overnight camping expeditions to places like wildlife preserves in the mountains, the Nantahala National Forest, mountain ridge trails like Mount Mitchell, river trails like Stone Mountain and Hanging Rock. We went everywhere. I still hike those mountains today. I love the outdoors. I love the beauty. My mind travels back to that time when I had 3 boys with me and we learned the lessons of life together as we hiked all over high country trails.
Over the years, I have expanded my walking in every direction from the downtown. I have discovered the hidden gems around here and, yes, there are so many of them; beautiful homes, beautiful old buildings. Concord has 197 historic buildings and homes listed in the historic registry, I walk all year round, to visit these homes. Downtown Concord is a beautiful place to live, to work, to walk around and experience. Come join me.
Give me a call sometime. I will be happy to take you around and show you the history of the downtown and I will introduce you to some of these fascinating people who take care of these wonderful pieces of history.
