WHEN TO CLOSE AN ESTATE
So, you are executor of a deceased person’s estate.
This video is about when to close the estate and distribute the assets.
The problem is that most people do not know the complex estate settlement laws.
Let me caution you not to close a decedent’s estate too early.
I recommend waiting at least a full year before closing the estate.
The reason is sometimes we don’t know all the assets coming into the estate after 90 days, 180 days, even after a year.
A quick closing is a mistake that can come back to bite you.
For example, should the estate be closed too soon and the assets distributed, there may be unknown expenses that have to be covered but there are no assets available to pay those bills.
You, the executor, can be personally liable.
In nearly 40 years of law practice, I have settled hundreds of decedent’s estates.
Let me take the complex legal burden of estate settlement off your back.
My job is to take care of my clients.
