ESTATE PLANNING MEDICAL POWER OF ATTORNEY

Let me tell you something you may not know about the use of a medical power of attorney.

For many, many decades, a person was ill and unable to make their own medical decisions.

It was common practice to gather the family together to reach a consensus on what to do to treat the ill individual.

As you well know, this family conference often resulted in great conflict and a family fight.

The most famous of these fights happened several years ago in Florida with Terry Shivo, a young lady about 30 years of age, who lay in a coma for many years.

Her husband on one side and her parents on the other side of a lengthy law suit over whether she should be kept on life support.
