DISTRIBUTING THE ASSETS TO A MINOR
So, you are executor of an estate.
This video is about distributing assets of the estate to a minor child.
The problem is that most people do not know the complex estate settlement laws.
Yet, you are about to make decisions that drastically affect a young person’s life well into the future.
One example is that often, you will be required to pay estate assets into the office of the Clerk of Superior Court to be held until the minor reaches age 18.
However, there may be alternatives that would serve the best interests of the minor child.
You may need to have a Guardian of the Estate appointed to handle the assets.
There may also be circumstances under which property can be delivered directly to the minor or to a custodian under the Uniform Gifts to Minors Act or to a trust for the minor’s benefit.
However, these methods require that you obtain authorization by the Court through a Court order.
Above all else, you want to do what helps the minor most for his or her future.
That child is depending on you for true wisdom and expertise as the Administrator.
In nearly 40 years of law practice, I have effectively settled hundreds of estates.
Let me take the complex legal burden of estate settlement off your back.
