ESTATE PLANNING LAST ONE STANDING MYTH

One especially common myth on the street happens like this.

Mother and Father died years ago leaving several children a piece of property.

Several years later, I get a visit from the last of the children that is still alive who now wants a deed into his name alone since he is the last survivor.

“The last one standing gets the property, RIGHT, Mr. Lawyer?”

That may be the “barber shop” law.

That is not the way the law really works.

Belief in “beauty parlor” law can cost you a lot of worry and a lot of time and money.

This scenario is a nightmare.

All the children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren of deceased siblings own a part of the property.

And all their spouses own an interest, too.

Possible – hundreds of heirs!!
