Don’t bulldoze the past, destroy the unique nature of a downtown and lose a powerful magnet for shoppers to enjoy the experience.
The historic architecture downtown Concord sees today began arising in the mid 1800’s and continued into the 1900’s.
Concord has resisted the temptation to tear down historic buildings as has been done in other cities.
Instead, we choose to revere and cherish the architecture and style of the past and not become another bland, plain vanilla shopping mall area.
Steve was eager to serve on the Board of Directors of the Concord Downtown Development Corporation where he saw the need in 2004
Steve served during a time of great activity. Downtown businesses were experimenting with live entertainment downtown.
Early forays into an arts walk to many restaurants, museums, galleries, street fairs became the norm in the spring and fall.
Public art sprang up at bi-centennial plaza and alley ways as wells as the sides of old buildings.
Many of the historic signs were restored and preserved forever.
The efforts to develop restaurants, art galleries, live entertainment venues were successful in bringing tourists and people from far around to partake in the old time entertainment and cultural venue.
